Multi-Day Tours
AK Adventures offers a full range of bear viewing and wildlife photography tours including day or multi-day trips. So depending on how much time you have to do a bear viewing trip, we have an option for you! All of our tours are fly-in trips to Katmai National Park and the Alaska Peninsula, which is world famous for bear viewing.
Our multi-day tours are designed for those who desire more exposure
to the bears than is offered with a standard one day trip. Most clients stay
between 2 and 4 nights, however longer stays are available. We limit the
group size to just 4 clients. The Alaska Peninsula is world famous for
bear viewing and our trips take you off the beaten path and down bear
trails away from the crowds.
We guide tours from late May through September 15. When
is the best time to come? There really is no bad to time to come, it's
really more a matter of what best fits your schedule. In
late May and June the bears are engaged in mating, mothers with cubs
are grazing in grassy flats and meadows. In July when the
salmon runs begin, the bears start changing their diet to that of salmon and
in August the bears continue to feast on salmon. In September the
season turns to fall the bears are now eating berries and any available salmon. All air transportation is from Homer to our remote camp. Click for Rates & Reservations information.
What to Expect
Departing from Homer - Your adventure begins in Homer.
On the day of your trip, you will board a bush or float plane for the scenic
flight across Cook Inlet to the eastern coast of the Alaskan Peninsula
where our camp is located. The flight itself is an exciting
part of any
Alaskan adventure. We recommend that you arrive at least a day before to
ensure that your luggage arrives and that you can call to confirm with
the flight
service your departure time. It also allows you an opportunity to shop
for any last minute items you may need.
Safety First - All clients are given
a bear safety orientation. Bears can show up at any time it is important
to know how to act around them. All guides are certified in first-aid and CPR. A satellite phone
and a VHF radio provide us with communications linking us to our pilots and the
rest of the world. However all the technology in the world is no substitute for
"common sense" your most valuable tool in the wilderness!
Physical Activity - These trips can be enjoyed by almost
everyone! Most of the time is spent sitting watching and photographing
bears. However it is possible to cover 2 to 5 miles of easy to moderate
hiking in a day. So if you engage in some sort of regular physical activity or aerobic
exercise than you will do fine on our trips.
Daily Hikes and Outings - Your natualist guide will plan the
daily itinerary based upon by the interests of the group, physical condition
of group, bear activity and weather.
Accommodations - For sleeping we use spacious
(4 person), high quality expedition style tents. Each of these tents is used
to house two people. They provide you with ample space for your gear, as well as a comfortable retreat should we get "weathered in".
Meals - Breakfasts and dinners are health consciously prepared
and served family style. Lunch is usually sandwiches along with cookies
or fresh fruit.
Beverages
such as coffee or tea are provided, however we do not provide
alcoholic beverages.
